Acts of political violence committed against a U.S. president date to the republic’s early decades.

On Saturday, a gunman shot former President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. After several shots rang out, one bullet grazed Trump’s ear before he fell to the ground and U.S. Secret Service agents toppled over him.

The former president later said on social media that he was fine and would appear at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this week. The gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by a Secret Service sharpshooter. A volunteer firefighter in the crowd was killed, while two other rallygoers were injured.

The assassination attempt on Trump follows a series of incidents that have left some presidents rattled or hospitalized, only to go on serving their term or terms or continue running for office.

New Orleans Saints Alvin Kamara reports training camp: source [Video]

One of the New Orleans Saints star players at the center of a contract dispute for weeks has arrived to training camp. Sources tell WDSU that running back Alvin Kamara has reported to training camp in Irvine, California. Kamara missed the final mandatory minicamp practice several weeks ago, reportedly due to contract issues. Despite being at training camp, it is unclear if he will participate or if the contract extension issues have been resolved. Saints head coach Dennis Allen has yet to speak to any potential problems with Kamara. Kamara has been with the Saints since 2017 and is entering his eighth season with the team. He is in his final year of his current deal where he's scheduled to make a little more than $10 million. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis and head coach Dennis Allen are holding a news conference Tuesday night at 5:45 p.m. central.
