BMW Vision Neue Klasse X: The Electric SAV Redefines Luxury & Sustainability ⚡️

A new BMW Group Vision Vehicle provides a first glimpse of the Neue Klasse as an SAV: The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X brings the aesthetics, technology, sustainability, and philosophy of the Neue Klasse to the Sports Activity Vehicles sector.

The BMW X models are undergoing a redesign, characterized by a blend of traditional BMW aesthetics and innovative design elements. In combination with the two-box design of a BMW X model, the pared-down design language developed for the Neue Klasse also represents a major leap forward in both exterior and interior design.

Embracing fully-electric vehicle architecture, the design allows for increased ground clearance, spacious interiors, and classic BMW proportions with long wheelbases and short overhangs. Large windows and a panoramic glass roof enhance the interior’s airy feel, complemented by warm-colored textiles.

The new brand identity features vertically aligned LED units and a reimagined BMW kidney grille, creating a striking presence with dynamic lighting effects both inside and out. The rear design boasts powerful athleticism, incorporating 3D-printed elements in the rear lights for expressive depth. Flush glass surfaces and a bright exterior paint color add to the vehicle’s sense of lightness, while signature design elements like the Hofmeister kink are reinterpreted with innovative techniques like reflective print.

The driving experience of the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X is enhanced by its slightly elevated seating position, ensuring confidence behind the wheel. Key features include a redesigned steering wheel with multifunction buttons, a Central Display with intuitive touch controls, and BMW Panoramic Vision for projecting essential information onto the windscreen.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant facilitates seamless human-car interaction through advanced voice control. The Central Display, elegantly integrated into the instrument panel, grants easy access to infotainment functions for both front passengers, with colors extending to ambient lighting and backlit textile surfaces. Additionally, the Personal Sound Experience, introduced with the HYPERSONX WHEEL, allows occupants to enjoy personalized audio during their journey, further enhancing the driving experience.

The Neue Klasse represents a significant advancement in overall vehicle efficiency, largely due to the incorporation of the latest sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology. This includes improved e-drive units and new round lithium-ion battery cells with a 20% higher volumetric energy density compared to previous models, along with the transition to an 800-volt system, facilitating faster charging speeds by up to 30%. The sixth-generation eDrive also offers up to 30% more range.

Furthermore, innovative drive and chassis control systems, powered by a new in-house-developed software stack by the BMW Group, ensure a superior driving experience tailored to individual needs. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X demonstrates impressive aerodynamic performance, boasting a 20% reduction in drag compared to current models, with additional efficiency enhancements achieved through new tyre designs and a specialized brake system for fully-electric vehicles, contributing to a potential overall efficiency increase of up to 25%.

The interior of the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X showcases a commitment to sustainability through the development and use of innovative materials. “Verdana,” a plant-based, mineral-based, and petroleum-free surface material, is employed in the lower portion of door paneling and the center console, while maritime plastics, derived from discarded fishing nets, are integrated into injection-molded parts, constituting up to 30% of selected components.

These materials, along with a construction method emphasizing easier disassembly and improved recyclability, underscore the vehicle’s eco-conscious design. Additionally, recycled mono-materials are utilized for the production of side skirts, front, and rear apron attachments, further enhancing sustainability efforts.

The introduction of the Neue Klasse marks a significant milestone in production history, particularly with the development of the BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary as an iFACTORY. This facility is designed to accommodate the production of fully-electric vehicles, signaling a shift towards sustainable manufacturing practices. The first fully-electric model based on this new architecture is scheduled to begin series production in 2025, showcasing BMW’s commitment to advancing electric mobility and shaping the future of automotive production.
