Senate likely to vote on legislation to increase Social Security benefits [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A vote on the last hurdle to raising Social Security benefits for millions nationwide, including thousands of Alaskans, is anticipated for Friday in the U.S. Senate, according to supporters.

The bipartisan-supported “Social Security Fairness Act” already passed the House 327-75.

The bill attracted more than 330 cosponsors in the House and has already gained the support of 62 cosponsors in the Senate, including Alaska U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who announced her support on social media last week.

Murkowski said The Social Security Fairness Act will ensure that those who have dedicated their lives to serving Alaska do not face unfair penalties in retirement.
