Berkeley Electric works to restore hundreds of homes without power [Video]

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – The Berkeley Electric Cooperative says they are still working to restore thousands of homes that lost power Saturday morning.

About 6,200 Berkeley Electric members lost power in the Goose Creek area in the early morning, according to their Facebook post.

Berkeley Electric’s director of marketing and communications Libby Roerig says Santee Cooper experienced a fault near JW Aluminum in Goose Creek, halting service to Berkeley Electric’s Crowfield substation around 1 a.m. Saturday.

She says the damage required lengthy repairs, including the replacement of two transmission poles.

At 5:30 a.m., Santee Cooper estimated it would take six more hours to fully restore transmission.

As of their 11:30 a.m. update on Facebook, about 2,500 members were still without power.

Roerig says transmission crews from the Pinewood area are assisting the local Santee Cooper crews.
