Pawnee City looks to attract people with new affordable housing project [Video]

PAWNEE CITY, Neb. (KOLN) – It’s a quiet life in southeast Nebraska’s Pawnee City. Far from high-rises and honking horns, the only traffic jam is the occasional holiday parade.

“It’s a high quality of life, great school,” John Werner, CEO of the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital, said. “Kids can get together and hang out. You don’t have to worry too much.”

Some say, however, that Pawnee City has been a little too quiet recently.

“It doesn’t matter whether it’s southeast Nebraska or the Sandhills,” Make Habbeger, president of the Pawnee City Development Corporation, said. “I mean, in between all the towns, smaller towns struggle all the time.”

That’s why Steve Glenn of Lincoln’s Executive Travel stepped in, putting Aaron Sawyer as the development man on the job.
