(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Police in Joliet investigated rumors of a “weapon” inside Joliet West High School, prompting a lockdown.
The school was on lockdown in what officials have described as a “secure and hold” alert for multiple hours Friday evening. Shortly after 4 p.m., the school posted on social media that the secure and hold protocol was lifted.
“The campus was searched, and no weapon was found. Law enforcement has determined this rumor to be un-substantiated,” the school posted on Facebook.
School release was delayed for the search. Bus service will still be provided to students.
The Joliet West Varsity Football game will still take place, but will be delayed until 7:30 p.m.
