QUAPAW, Okla. — It’s the launch of a brand new school year – storm delayed two weeks after students were supposed to go back to class.
This is not the first day of school Sheri Compton expected.
“It is very different, with only half the students in the building. But so far, we’re making it work,” said Sheri Compton, Quapaw Elementary Principal.
Storm damage in August means all of Quapaw’s third, fourth, and fifth graders had to move to a different building.
They’re temporarily in the south campus with the older kids.
“We’ve tried to make schedules where our elementary students do not commingle with any middle school or high school students,” said Compton.
Storm damage on August 16th prompted the changes.
“The elementary school had kind of took a direct hit. We lost pretty much all the roofs at the elementary school, several of the HVAC units. We had water damage in most of the classrooms. All …
