CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The City of Cincinnati announced Thursday a partnership with a non-profit to use nearly $1.5 million to erase medical debt for city residents.
“Today, we are proud to announce the formal launch of a project addressing one of the most significant barriers our residents face, medical debt,” said Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval.
The funds are to be used to help city residents who can’t pay down their medical bills.
“This program is really meant to try and even the playing field for folks who are trying to make ends meet, trying to get ahead of their bills, trying to put food on the table and the need is acute and it is serious,” Pureval said.
The city is working through the non-profit, Undue Medical Debt, to buy up medical debt for less than what is owed.
