Growing lavender is a labor of love for Nebraska business [Video]

BIG SPRINGS, Neb. (KOLN) – Just south of Big Springs, a family is growing lavender. And as you might imagine, there are various challenges to growing lavender in the Cornhusker State.

We caught up with the co-owner of “Our Lavender Co” to talk about what it takes to grow lavender in Nebraska. “We started growing lavender in 2019,” Peggy Palser said. Palser says the soil in the area is really perfect for lavender. “Lavender likes sandy soil,” Palser said. “Sand will let the water flow faster through the soil. It doesn’t sit there and pool. Lavender wants a drink, but then it wants the water to go away. So again, we have the perfect soil for that.”

The company has three varieties that are really working well in Nebraska. “We actually have 18 different varieties,” Palser said. “We are propagating from some of the plants that have survived, and now …
