RAYTOWN, Mo. (KCTV) – The Jackson County Public Health Department (JCPH) announced Tuesday that Narcan is now available throughout Raytown.
Narcan is a brand of naloxone, a treatment that blocks the effects of opioids to reverse an overdose rapidly.
According to JCPH, “over 200 residents of Eastern Jackson County have lost their lives to opioid overdoses” since 2017. These deaths reportedly declined in 2023, but the county said it’s important they continue to reduce the statistics through the free distribution of Narcan.
The new dispensers, located in Raytown’s three fire stations, are equipped with Narcan, fentanyl test strips and educational guides to understand what an overdose looks like:
- Fire Station 51: 6020 Raytown Trafficway
- Fire Station 52: 7611 Raytown Trafficway
- Fire Station 53: 10020 E 66th Terrace
Seth Middleton, program coordinator for JCPH, said it’s essential for the treatment to be available to residents experiencing emergencies.
“By making these dispensers available in the community, we aim to increase access to this lifesaving medication and ultimately save lives,” said Middleton.
