California Governor Gavin Newsom has said the state’s reservoirs are “well-equipped” to aid in firefighting efforts after facing criticism from Republicans regarding his management of the state’s water resources
His comments came in a social media post on X on Thursday, as several wildfires raged in Los Angeles County.
Newsweek reached out to the governor’s office by email for comment.
Why It Matters
Over the past few days, at least 10 people have died after multiple wildfires erupted in Los Angeles County. The Palisades, Eaton, Kenneth, Lidia and Hurst fires have grown to a total of more than 36,500 acres combined.
California leaders, including Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, have faced criticism over fire management, particularly from Republicans, including President-elect Donald Trump and Georgia congresswoman, Marjorie Taylor Greene.
