The church in Belding has been open for 120 years.
BELDING, Mich. — A West Michigan church has closed its doors after 120 years of Sunday services.
Belding United Methodist Church held its final service on Sunday, titled “Last Words.”
The church, which is located at 301 Pleasant Street, has been a spot for people to gather for many years. It broadcasted its final service on social media.
But after low attendance and insurance costs rising, the church decided to close their doors.
Previously, Pastor Melissa Wagner told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that the church has had a decline in attendance for years, and now only have eight to 12 people show up to service on Sundays.
Wagner also previously told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that the church still hopes it will be purchased, so it can continue to serve the community.
